RING DESIGNS AND ANATOMY

RING DESIGNS AND ANATOMY

Are you looking for an engagement ring or a statement ring? When buying a ring, it pays to do a little research on the anatomy of the ring.

If you know the shank of the ring from the gallery, you can make a better decision when choosing the ring style. Therefore, in this article, we will explain the anatomy, parts, and design of the ring.

Shank

The ring shank, also known as the band, is the technical term for the metal part that surrounds the finger. It is made of metals such as white, rose, yellow, or platinum gold. It usually begins and ends where it meets the center of a diamond or stone.

If the ring needs to be resized, do so from the bottom of the shaft. Depending on the size you want, add or remove a piece of metal from the bottom to achieve the right size.

Gallery

The front of the ring is below the central stone. A gallery is often added below the design to maintain structure and provide optimal comfort.

The band itself can be beautifully designed with additional diamonds or a delicate metal pattern.

Head

The head of the ring is the part of the ring that holds the stone or diamond in the center. Claw-shaped ring heads are the most popular and consist of small metal claws that hold the stone in place. Engagement rings often have between four and six claws, with six claws being the most secure.

There are also framed, semi-framed, and channel heads. The baffle head is the area where the metal surrounds the entire stone. This is the most secure style, but it is less popular as it hides much of the stone.

Not all diamond rings have a ring head. Some styles have diamonds or gemstones set directly into the ring.

Cathedral style

The cathedral setting is a ring style characterized by a metal arch from the top of the shank to the head. It is called a cathedral because there is space between the shank and the head. There are many styles available for cathedral rings, ranging from stylish and trendy rings to elegant and vintage rings. As engagement rings, very popular cathedral style rings highlight the center stone and give you an elegant finish.

Side stones

There are no central stones in the ring's side ones, instead using small stones like gemstones or diamonds. Usually, they are placed beside the central gemstone alongside the shank.

In recent years, engagement rings with side stones have become the number one choice for wedding proposals as more people than ever are looking for glamour.

Halo rings

A halo ring is a halo-shaped ring in which the center stone is surrounded by an intertwined diamond. The diamonds surrounding the center stone sparkle strongly and make the center diamond appear larger.
